About Us
Our History
The White Rose Chorus began in 1945 as the York, PA Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and were sponsored by the Wilmington DE chapter. We are currently the third oldest chapter in our district. We represent York as a member of the Mid-Atlantic District and have sent choruses and quartets and compete against chapters from Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, New Jersey and Washington DC.
The chorus was known as the Colonial Chorus for many years, then became the White Rose Chorus in late 1985. We were the first chapter in the district with over 200 members. There was a steady decline for many years until 2008 when the chapter had just 8 members and was nearly defunct. We have steady grown since then in size and quality and hope to continue that trajectory.

So what is this Barbershop thing anyway?
Barbershop harmony is a singing style that centers on a good singable melody and supports that melody with consonant 4-part harmony. The arrangement structure resolves chords around the circle of fifths.
